The staff of the Library aims to offer customers the comfortable atmosphere in their usage of the library. However, food and drink can damage library materials and equipment and it may disturb other library readers. So eating and drinking inside the Reading Rooms is forbidden. Food and drink can be consumed inside the Library in designated dining places.
There are several places to eat and drink in the Library. Dining areas are available on the ground floors of the Library buildings. Two food spaces are located in the Main Building, one is situated in the New Building and one is placed in the Building on the Fontanka Embankment.

The menu of Dining Halls features hot meals, soups, salads, pies, and snacks. They also serve cofee and teas, juices and other non-alcoholic drinks.

The Library is open Monday—Friday from 9:00 to 21:00; Saturday, Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00.
The Library is closed on public holidays and last Tuesday of each month. On pre-holidays, the Library is open from 9:00 to 16:00.
