Aldine Editions of the 15th - 16th Centuries

More than 900 volumes make up the library's Aldus Manutius collection - works produced by the great humanist printer of Renaissance Venice and his heirs. Founded in 1494 by Aldus, Aldine Press printed the celebrated Aldine editions of Herodotus, Plato, Plutarch, Euripides, Aeschylus, Ovid, Caesar, and other Greek and Latin classics. Many of these books are impressive for their high standard of technical execution, artistry and scholarliness.
