Guided Tours

Welcome to the National Library of Russia!

The Cultural Programs Department of the NLR offers tours for visitors from around the world. The general tour about the Library includes visits to the Manuscripts Department, the Rare Books Department, Voltaire's Library, premises of the Russian Language Stock and Reading Rooms. Guests of the Library find out how books are stored, learn more about the history and architecture of the Library, about its collections and the most famous curators.

During the tour, visitors may take photos in the historical interiors of the Library.

Each tour is led by highly qualified guides who use individual approach to every group.


Tours last approximately 75 minutes and start from the Entrance «Directorate» (18, Sadovaya Street).

Guided tours are available for groups up to 15 people.

Advance booking is recommended.
Coats and big bags (including backpacks) should be left at the cloakroom.

Visitors may arrange special tours with focus on the Manuscripts Department, Voltaire's Library, or the Rare Books Department that houses the collections of West European and Russian early printed books, the Petrine collection, Aldine editions and Elzevier volumes.
