Dear Colleagues,
Plekhanov House, the National Library of Russia department, N.I. Vavilov Institute of the History of Natural Science and Technology of The Russian Academy of Sciences, Center for Mod-ern Marxist Studies of The Faculty of Philosophy of Lomonosov Moscow State University, and The Association for Marxist Social Science (AMSS) are pleased to announce a Conference on “Socio-Philosophical Ideas of Historical Formation. Marxism Today: Condition, Problems, Contradic-tions, General Directions of Evolution, and Prospects” to be held at Plekhanov House, on 7- 8 November, 2025, Saint - Petersburg.
The following main, but not limited to, subjects are planned for analysis and discussion:
- The status, problems, contradictions, trends and prospects of Marxist theory in Russia and in the world;
- Content, essence and forms of evolution of Marxism in the XX – XXI centuries;
- Marxism as a revolutionary thinking, theory and practice;
- Communist as well as other political and public associations of employees parties’ role in the development of Marxism as a theory and practice;
- Attitude of social democratic, socialist and center-left parties of the capitalist "centre" and "periphery" countries, and Eastern European states to modern Marxist conceptions;
- Anti-Marxism and anti-communism;
- The importance of Marxism as a worldview /weltanschauung/ and practice in the evolution of the mankind in the XXI century, its main trends, possible alternative ways of world and regional progress, and humanization of man and society.
A Round table discussion, completing the event, on "Modern Marxism: Its Actual Status, and the Way It Can and Should Transform”, is planned.
We invite philosophers, sociologists, historians, political scientists, economists, lawyers, teachers, postgraduates and students of Russian and foreign universities, public organizations and associations members, all those who are interested in the discussion of the range of problems men-tioned, to contribute to the conference.

The Conference makes part of the Plekhanov House Jubilee events, commemorating the 170th celebration of the birth of the outstanding Russian thinker and a founder of the Marxist “Eman cipa-tion of Labour” Group and Russian Social-Democratic Party G.V. Plekhanov (1856-2026), as well as the 100th anniversary of the Plekhanov House establishment (1928-2028) in the M.E. Saltykov-Schedrin State Public Library, now The National Library of Russia.
