Gospel Aprakos.
Middle of 16th cent. Applied covers from middle of 17th cent.
F (285 õ 195). 417 leaves.
Paper. Ink, cinnabar, colours, gold. Silver (?), embossing.
It is written in a semi-uncial hand.
Head-pieces in colours on a gold background and initials (without use of gold) are placed before the opening of each Gospel (fols. 1r, 60r, 127r, 167r). Blank leaves, preceding them, are left for miniatures.
The binding consists of boards, covered with silk fabric. The applied cover is set onto the upper board. The lower board is fitted with 5 brass rolls. Clasps are now lacking.
The applied cover on the upper board of the Gospel binding includes the centre piece showing The Crucifixion and three carinate corner pieces with portraits of the Evangelists (one corner piece is missing), and also four rhombic panels depicting cherubs. Panels are attached to a basma background, decorated with imbrication - an overlapping, as of smooth scales alternately with network scales. This motif was prevalent in design of Novgorod basma during the 17th and the first half of the 18th centuries.
In 1919 the manuscript came into the State Public Library along with the collection of St Sophia's Cathedral in Novgorod.
