A peculiar vignette bookplate was initiated by Leon Bakst. The only ex libris of his work completely conforms to the impression of "bookishness" due to the refinement of drawing, the delicately drawn initials placed in the open music book on the piano, and the plant ornament.

Other masters, including Konstantin Somov and Mstislav Dobuzhinsky, took up this new form of vignette and began to use it in their works. Konstantin Somov created ornamental decorative plates, carrying a sensual note that distinguished all the work of the artist.
