On September 1, an official delegation of the Ministry of Culture of the Federative Republic of Brazil visited the National Library of Russia. The delegation included:
Márcio Tavares dos Santos - head of the delegation, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Culture of Brazil;
Fernanda Santana Rabello de Castro - President of the Brazilian Institute of Ibrahm Museums;
Jefferson dos Santos Assumsao - Director of Books, Reading, Literature and Libraries, Secretariat of Education, Books and Reading, Ministry of Culture of Brazil;
Vinicius Gurtler da Rosa, Coordinator of the Special Unit for International Affairs of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture;
Laura Miranda Matos Barrio - General Content Coordinator of the Directorate of Special Social Communications of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture.
As part of the visit, the guests met with Vladimir Gronskii, Director General of the National Library of Russia, to discuss the prospects of cooperation between library institutions of Russia and Brazil.
"We, cultural workers, should make the maximum contribution to the creation of a multipolar world with equal rights for all nations and peoples" - said Vladimir Gronskii.
Mr. Jefferson dos Santos Assumsao confirmed that the National Library of Brazil is interested in signing a cooperation agreement and noted that Russian literature has had a great influence on Brazilian literature, especially in the XX century.
A sightseeing tour of the National Library of Russia was organized for the participants of the delegation. The guests visited the Russian Book Fund, the Center for the Study of the Age of Enlightenment "Voltaire's Library" and the Rare Books Department.
Cooperation between the National Library of Russia and library institutions of Brazil is actively developing. Brazilian library professionals regularly participate in international events organized by the NLR.
An official delegation from the Ministry of Culture of Brazil arrived in Russia to participate in the 1st meeting of the Working Group on Culture of the Russian-Brazilian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. The meeting resulted in the signing of a memorandum on cooperation between the Ministries of Culture of Russia and Brazil and on cooperation in the field of culture.
