On July 26, a delegation from the National Library of China visited the National Library of Russia. The oldest public library in Russia was visited by Executive Deputy Director of the Library Zhang Zhiqing, Director of the Office of the National Center for the Preservation and Conservation of Ancient Books Wang Honglei, Secretary General of the Secretariat of the Library Association of China Wang Yanhan.
The guests were given a guided tour of the main building of the NLR, during which they got acquainted with unique documents from the collection of the first Russian Chinese scholar N.Y. Bichurin, kept in the Manuscripts Department. The guests showed great interest in the laboratory of codicological research, where the colleagues were shown modern technologies used in the NLR for the examination of manuscript documents.
The colleagues from China met Director General of the NLR Vladimir Gronskii. They signed a cooperation agreement between the two institutions in the digitization of library objects and works belonging to the joint cultural heritage of the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation. It is planned to implement joint research projects, as well as exchange of specialists and professional internships.
The exchange of experience has outlined concrete prospects for joint work of the National Library of Russia and the National Library of China. The realization of the cooperation agreement will strengthen friendly and professional ties between the partner institutions.
