Get a Library Card

Our reading rooms are available to visitors aged 14 and more. If you wish to use the reading rooms you must register.  To get a library card, you will need to visit the Main  or New Library Building and register at the Registration Desk located on the Ground Floor.
Cards which have been issued to a particular reader may not be passed to another person.

What you need to bring

Foreign citizens will need to bring:

  • a valid passport with a visa or registration documents issued by the Federal Migration Service of Russia at their place of stay on the territory of the Russian Federation;

Additional Documents: 

  • persons with an academic degree must provide proof of status level, e.g. a Doctor of Science diploma.

Please note that original documents are required; we cannot accept copies.

Photographs for a card are taken concurrently with the reader registration.

NOTE! The Library cards for foreign citizens are issued for the period of validity of their visas or registration documents issued by the Federal Migration Service of Russia at their place of stay on the territory of the Russian Federation. The expiration date of the library card is indicated on the front side of the card.

To renew a library card, a reader will need to bring only a passport with a visa.
