NOT all our Library locations are wheelchair-accessible. The entrance of the New Building is ramped, the Main Building and the site on the Fontanka Embankment are accessed by stairs.
The Library provides services for disabled readers who have difficulty walking, mainly, on the ground floor of the New Building. Other floors of the New Building can be reached only if lifts can accommodate a wheelchair, because the lift size is not big enough.
If you have a disability and need assistance accessing our collections, please call +7(812) 415-97-09, when you arrive. Otherwise, make yourself known to the security staff at the entrance to the Reading Rooms.
Our staff will support you in your visit. They will finds out the purpose of your visit to the Library, explain the tems of using the Reading Rooms, help to get a Library Card and bring the appropriate materials to consult in the rooms on the ground floor.
Please note that your accompanying person must also obtain a Library Card before entering the reading area.
In the absence of an attendant, our librarian will take your coat and put it into the Cloakroom. Things that are not allowed into the Library in accordance with the Terms of Using the Reading Rooms will be stored into the storage compartments.
Wheelchair readers can get information about the Library and its collections via the touch screen kiosks located on the ground floor of the New Building. They can visit the Current Periodicals Room and the Exhibition of Recent Acquisitions. Here disabled readers can work on a computer, access the Library E-catalogue, database of dissertations and order items from the Library collections. Wheelchair visitors also can attend events held in the Assembly Hall and view exhibitions in the Central Exhibition Hall.
Books and/or other items that have been used in the Reading Rooms must be returned to an assisting librarian before the closing time.
There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor of the New Building.
